We were greatly saddened to read about the death of a man on a Northern Territory prawn trawler.
The 20 year old was using an angle grinder on the deck of the ship to cut rusted shackles when he was hit by a rogue wave and electrocuted. Counsel assisting the Coroner told the inquest the grinder had been plugged into a socket without a safety switch (RCD).
“If such a device was fitted it would have cut the power to that circuit and would in all likelihood have saved the man’s life,” Counsel told the ABC.
The most terrible thing about this tragic event is that it could have been prevented… we wanted to share this to spread the word about electrical safety, especially when working in a wet environment. Our mission at Ampfibian has always been to make people’s lives safer.
Make sure that you, your family and your friends are extra vigilant when dealing with 240V mains electricity to prevent this kind of horrible accident. If you believe somebody is doing something that’s potentially dangerous don’t ever be afraid to speak out.

Safe on the road with Ampfibian!
The Wanderer Magazine recently published an article featuring the Ampfibian MAX. It touched on some very important points surrounding safety and peace of mind while on the road (and at home!).
“Preparation is everything before you hit the road, whether your trip is going to be a long or a short one. There’s the cupboards to pack, the fridge to stock and making sure everything is working just fine before you set off.
Until now it has been commonplace for RV owners to make up their own power adapters to connect their RV’s 15A inlet to their 10A home powerpoint to charge their house battery and check the electrics.
Home made plug connections, or “death leads” as they are also known (for good reason) are illegally modified equipment. Using a lead such as this is incredibly dangerous, would invalidate your RV and home insurance and could result in police charges…”

What Tradies Want Magazine recently reviewed our company. See more below,
‘Ampfibian Pty Ltd is an Australian company that designs and manufactures personal power adapters; committed to improving electrical safety for people and businesses. In 2005, David Betterridge tried to plug his caravan in at home with zero success. He was advised to either install an expensive 15A power circuit, or make what’s referred to as an illegal death lead. In 2007, after thoroughly investigating the relevant Australian electrical standards, David successfully lobbied to have the 15A power circuit amended to the 10A connection inclusive of specific electronic hardware.’

“Hellbenders™” are Ampfibians new heavy-duty extensions leads.
When you consider buying an extension lead, remember that extension leads are not all created equal: they are manufactured to be used in different environments, under different conditions, and to carry different amounts of electrical current. By basing your choice of extension cord on your specific requirements, you increase the usable life of the lead, making you safer and ultimately giving you better value for money. Safety, longevity and convenience were the key factors in the creation of the revolutionary Hellbenders.
Exclusively available online, these 15A leads are made of rubber, which means they are extra tough and flexible. Unlike conventional P.V.C. leads, Hellbenders wind tightly which makes them very compact and portable. As rubber does not have a “memory” effect, they won’t become difficult to wind, or get kinked from regular use.
They won’t go soft in the sun (they can be used up to 150 degrees Celsius!) and the outer is completely waterproof. The rubber is extremely durable and highly resistant to physical abuse. These toughies will outlast cheap PVC leads, saving you money.
The current range of Hellbenders is for 15 Amp caravans, RVs and camper-trailers. Remember you must never modify a 15A extension lead to fit into a 10A outlet! This is dangerous and if (when!) something goes wrong, will render your insurance void. It could also kill you.
Available in three different lengths (10m, 15m, 20m) they come with a wide Velcro® strap, which means once they’re rolled up, they stay rolled up: perfect for travel! The caravan/RV Hellbenders fit both old and current caravan/RV power inlets.
Regardless of whether or not it’s being used, when an extension cord is plugged into an outlet, it is potentially live. To avoid safety hazards, the Hellbender is fitted with a ‘power-on’ indicator light so you always know what’s going on.

The Australian Hardware Journal recently published an article on Ampfibian’s range of safe and convenient power adaptors.
‘For a long time the construction industry, tradies and handymen have been looking for a safe and convenient solution for adapting power supplies that keeps users covered by insurance and won’t be a safety hazard. Now there is a solution: Ampfibians – one for handymen and one for tradesmen. Ampfibians are Australian made 15Amp to 10Amp power and safety adaptors that let your 15A gear connect to 10A outlets safely, legally and easily.’

The Camper Trailer Australia Magazine recently featured Ampfibian in their December issue.
‘So you want to use the camper at home but realise your 15A inlet is not quite compatible to your 10A home supply.
Perhaps if you rig up a super dodgy fix it’ll be sweet? Sure you’ll void the warranty and insurance on all your major investments and create a needless fire risk but at least it’ll keep the beer cool (for a while)…’

What Tradies Want magazine recently tested and approved the Ampfibian.
‘Being a sparky means that I always cringe when I see some of the makeshift extension leads that come onto site. I’ve seen tape joins, crappy junctions, cut and modified leads and plus – all illegal, extremely dangerous and all disasters waiting to happen. Some people have a death wish. This is where Ampfibian have designed and made (in Australia) weatherproof industrial strength power adapters that have done the modifications you need…’

iMotorhome Magazine recently featured a product review on Ampfibian.
‘There’s a dirty little secret in the RV world: Many people make up their own adapters to connect a 15A power lead to a 10A home power socket. It’s done so they can charge up their vehicle’s house batteries, cool down the fridge before a trip and even run all the systems if using the vehicle as guest accommodation. Not only is it illegal, it’s dangerous…’
